Descente and the Canadian Speed Skating Team
Today Descente’s speed skating suits are direct descendants of the Magic Suit developed for downhill ski racing in 1979. Descente designers and engineers have built upon decades of experience and innovation to create competition wear with unsurpassed quality and performance capabilities.
What started in 1980 with Eric Heiden and his record setting five gold medals at the Lake Placid Olympics continues today.
Wearing Descente suits, Speed Skating Canada athletes have become an international powerhouse. The team won nine medals at Nagano in 1998 and another nine medals in Salt Lake City in 2002. In Salt Lake City the team’s suits featured designer Eiko Ishioka’s muscle graphics as well as strategically placed silicone compression straps. At the 2006 games in Torino the team’s Dimplex suits helped the team to a 12-medal haul.
